In support of the SSL Upgrade Capability Enhancement Programme (CEP) Re-Signalling Phase 1A (track circuit immunisation) works, the CRMS project was required to provide new Cable Route Management Systems to allow the installation of power supply cables to the various signalling kiosks and to allow feeder cables from those kiosks to be taken to the relevant trackside signalling equipment.

Works included for the following:

  • Detailed design of new cable routes based on high level equipment location information provided by the signalling contractor
  • Consideration made to required segregation of power and signalling cable and EMC issues
  • Production of CAD drawings in support of the above
  • Production of clearance applications for items potentially affecting the structural gauge of the track
  • Undertaking of assessments where design suggested crossing of the track via existing structures
  • Submission and approval of above documents on a phased programme to ensure critical areas were released to the client
  • Excavation for and installation of new concrete and GRP (TroTrof) routes including for installation beneath existing tracks as Under Track Crossings (UTX)
  • Excavation for an installation of new steel posts in concrete footings
  • Installation of anchor (knock-in) posts
  • Fixing of new steel straps between posts complete backplates and hangers to provide new cable routes
  • Installation of new Over Track Crossings (OTX’s) through the installation of unistrut supports and cable tray
  • Bespoke transitional steelwork where required
  • Working times limited dependent upon possession availability within the Depot, meaning flexibility was paramount
  • Agressive programme of works for design and build. Activities had to be well managed by the Project Team in conjunction with the Client’s Project Team
